Former Gillette Patient’s Team Wins 25th Annual MN Log a Load for Kids Golf Event

Winning Team: L-R Andy Westergren, Bob Sundby – former Gillette patient, John Quillen, & Kyle Ernst

No one can deny that Pokegama Golf Course is as good a place to be as any on a sunny early fall day in Minnesota. Sixteen teams hit the golf course on September 10th supporting the 25th Annual MN Log A Load for Kids Golf Tournament, which benefits Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare. Although there were skilled golfers on the course, it was as much about being well equipped with mulligans (an additional donation), hoping to benefit team scores. The event netted over $10,000.

Sundby Construction of Duluth took top honors in the Veneer flight with a 56. Sammy’s Pizza took second while Choice Insurance and Andren’s Paint Company tied for third. Bob Sundby shared that he was a Gillette patient as a boy, having a successful back surgery that has provided a lifetime of pain-free mobility. Bob has not only participated in this tournament for many years but has brought in four to five teams each year. “I’m so thankful for what Gillette did for me as a young boy that I want to give back,” shared Sundby.

Log A Load for Kids is an annual campaign which began in 1988 when loggers and others in the forest products community donated the value of a load of logs to their local Children’s Miracle Network hospital. Today, Log A Load is a leader in Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ fundraising, raising more than $2 million annually through golf tournaments, fishing events, dinners, truckloads of log donations and other events.
